now investigators say they are trying to figure out what prompted jovan belcher to murder his girlfriend before taking his own life. police say that jovan belcher shot and killed his girlfriend, kasandra perkins, on sunday morning before heading to the chiefs stadium where he killed himself in front of his head coach and others. the chiefs have any moment of silence before their game yesterday to remember all the victims of domestic violence. not specifically naming jovan belcher, but certainly a lot of questions. steve brown has more in chicago with this. we heard a little bit of the 911 call before the break. how do those final moments play out at arrowhead stadium earlier on saturday morning? reporter: yes, let's put that into context. kasandra perkins was shot numerous times and fatally wounded by the father of their child. that is jovan belcher, who drove to arrowhead stadium, essentially to talk to two people. that would be head coach and general manager. neither of those two gentlemen have commented on how those final seconds played out. but police officer that was watc

whitfield. >> kansas city chiefs jovan belcher has committed suicide after allegedly killing his girlfriend. he allegedly shot his girlfriend multiple times at the couple's home. the paper said the two had been arguing. he then drove to a practice facility at the chiefs arrowhead stadium, woalked up to had coac and general manager, thanks them for what they had done for him, then shot himself in the head. joining us, nfl senior reporter, don banks. what do you know of this? how do you put it into perspective? >> it's a pretty unique situation in terms of nfl history. i think this is really the first time we have ever had this situation where a double murder and a player committing suicide the day before a game is scheduled in that stadium in that city. it's a tragedy. i think the nfl is little bit working without a map because they never had a situation quite this immediate to deal with, and quite this tragic. >> and what is so incredible about this is clearly, by thanking, reportedly, his coach and the general manager, i mean, they must be replaying that moment, you know, when he pulled th

the tragic loss of a team member. linebacker jovan belcher reportedly killed his girlfriend yesterday and then drove to the stadium where he killed himself while his coaches and teammates watched in disbelieve. ed lavender are is in kansas city, missouri right now and, ed, this has been a tough day for the coach, a tough die for the players, what did they say after the game? >> reporter: you know this team, despite having faced this tragedy just a day before this game was scheduled, it went on as planned here in kansas city. a very subdued feeling inside the stadium throughout the game. this was clearly not a typical nfl football game. a much different mood in kansas city, known for having very vivacious and excitable fans. despite owl of this that the team was dealing with the saincs won the football game. >> it's hard when things happen like this, you can't undo them you have to rely on your family and friends and rely on your ith. that's what the team tried to do today and we were able to do that and try to work our way through the tragedy. and knowing that it's not over today, it

jovan belcher killed his girlfriend an then drove to the kansas city chiefs stadium and killed himself in front of his coaches. let me be clear. we don't know the causes or reasons the reasons behind this tragedy in particular, but we have seen a large number of nfl players take their own lives over the last few years. studies have shown that some of these swidz can be attributed to something called cte. it's chronic traumatic encephalopathy. it's attributed to alzheimer's. some are attributing it to concussion-like injuries. there's new information out, a new study that's making a lot of news. what is in the study, and why is it significant especially in light of what we've just seen happen over the weekend? >> researchers, ashleigh, have been so curious to know what do the brains of these athletes with chronic -- it's the biggest study. it's the largest mof people. they looked at 68 brains on autopsy of people who died and had chronic traumatic encephalopattie. most were athletes. i think this is really going to explain what they found. the three brains on the left are normal brains.
